Candidate Nomination Period

Monday, November 9, 2026 - Friday, December 4, 2026, 5:00 p.m. sharp*

*If an eligible incumbent City Councilmember does not file the required nomination paperwork by the stated filing deadline, the official Candidate Nomination Period is extended for an additional five days to Wednesday, December 9, 2026, 5:00 p.m. sharp for only eligible individuals other than eligible incumbents.

Appointments for Issuance and Filing of Nomination Papers

Cerritos residents who are intending to run for Cerritos City Council are strongly encouraged to schedule an appointment with the Office of the City Clerk/Elections Official for issuance and filing of official candidate Nomination Papers. On Fridays during the official Candidate Nomination Period, appointments are required.

Voter Registration 

Register to vote by Monday, February 15, 2027 to automatically receive a vote-by-mail ballot!

Voters who miss the February 15, 2027 deadline can still vote provisionally, in person at Cerritos City Hall or at the Liberty Park Community Center (Election Day only). Register to vote first, online or in-person (see below). In-person voting details are listed under "Voting Options" below.

Measure L: Proposed Charter Amendment (election date and related, conforming amendments

Notice - Deadline to file Written Arguments

The deadline to file a written argument for or against Measure L is 5:00 p.m., Monday, October 12, 2026 in the Office of the City Clerk/Elections Official.

Authors of written arguments for or against Measure L will receive a copy of any written opposing argument(s) filed. The authors may file written rebuttal arguments not later than 5:00 p.m., Thursday, October 22, 2026 in the Office of the City Clerk/Elections Official.
