Details
Community members are advised that West Nile Virus (WNV) activity is elevated across Los Angeles County. According to the Greater Los Angeles Vector Control District, positive mosquito samples, dead birds, and human cases are all exceeding last year’s numbers.
WNV is a mosquito-borne disease transmitted to people through the bite of an infected mosquito. The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health has reported 100 WNV infections so far this year, the highest number seen this early in the mosquito season in nearly a decade. Community members are advised to use insect repellent when outdoors, especially from dusk to dawn when the mosquitoes that can transmit WNV are most active.
