From the Mayor's Desk: May 22, 2026
By Cerritos Mayor Lynda P. Johnson
One of the greatest privileges of serving as your Mayor is the opportunity to recognize the people and organizations who make Cerritos the extraordinary community it is. Over the years, the City Council has taken great pride in honoring residents, local businesses, community organizations, student achievers, nonprofit leaders, and dedicated volunteers.
Such celebrations are traditionally held toward the beginning of our regularly scheduled City Council meetings. I’m excited to announce that beginning next week, we’ll showcase these deserving people in a new, standalone event, Celebrating Cerritos. This quarterly activity gives our deserving honorees a dedicated spotlight independent of traditional City Council proceedings. It also results in more time for public engagement and City Council deliberations at the regular meetings.
Our inaugural Celebrating Cerritos event will begin at 6 p.m. on Thursday, May 28, as part of a special meeting of the Cerritos City Council. You’re invited to join us to help congratulate our honorees for their accomplishments and service to our community. The City Council’s regular meeting will follow at 7 p.m.
Cerritos has always been home to individuals of remarkable character. I’m honored to share a community with local coaches who shape young lives, volunteers who step up quietly and consistently, community leaders who advocate for their neighbors, and local organizations that fill an assortment of needs. Celebrating Cerritos is our way of ensuring their stories are told and their efforts are honored before the entire community.
If you cannot attend in person, the special meeting will be broadcast live on Cerritos TV3 and the City’s YouTube channel.
My City Council colleagues and I are deeply proud to serve a city with so much to celebrate. We look forward to seeing you on May 28 as we shine a well-deserved light on the very best of Cerritos.
