By Cerritos Mayor Lynda Provido Johnson

Behind every City of Cerritos service is a dedicated team of employees. When you turn on your faucet, clean water flows. When your child plays at the park or you or your parent visits the Senior Center, they are welcomed into spaces that feel safe, well-kept, and worthy of this community.

Much of what our employees do is invisible by design. Many work behind the scenes or are continually moving about the City to ensure smooth operations. They show up to work ready to serve, in some cases before the rest of us are awake or well after we have gone to sleep. Our Public Works crews maintain the roads beneath your wheels and the infrastructure that can sometimes go unnoticed. Law enforcement and emergency services personnel stand ready to respond at a moment’s notice. Our parks staff routinely work nights and weekends to provide classes and operate youth programs.

Then there is the quality of life that Cerritos residents have come to expect and deserve. Our state-of-the art Library opens its doors to learners of every age. The Cerritos Senior Center provides programming and care for our older residents. Arts education and popular acts grace the stage of the Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts (CCPA). These amenities do not maintain themselves, and the work required to keep them at their best is far greater than may be known.

I recognize that amid budget constraints, the work environment can become challenging. With the City Council’s approval this week of our Fiscal Year 2026-2027 budget, certain expenditure reductions must occur to increase efficiency and maintain fiscal sustainability.

For the employees who support our City’s services, I join my City Council colleagues and our residents in expressing our sincere thanks. Their quiet competence is something we want to celebrate. Soon, we will launch a video series to spotlight our employees. You will be invited to meet the amazing people that keep Cerritos running, and the quality of services they provide on a daily basis for our community.
