Independence Day is one of our nation's most meaningful holidays. As we commemorate the 250th anniversary of the adoption of the Declaration of Independence, we reflect on the enduring principles of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness that have guided our country for generations. The Fourth of July is an opportunity to celebrate not only our nation's history, but also the freedoms we enjoy today and the shared responsibility we have to preserve them for future generations.

This past Saturday, our community gathered for the City of Cerritos' 53rd annual Let Freedom Ring Celebration to honor this historic milestone. More than 15,000 residents and visitors enjoyed live entertainment, family activities, and a spectacular fireworks display, while taking part in traditions that recognize the significance of Independence Day. As the City also celebrates its 70th anniversary this year, the event provided an opportunity to reflect on both our nation’s history and the strong community that Cerritos residents have built over the past 70 years.

One of the evening's most meaningful moments was the National Bell Ringing Ceremony. The ringing of the bell 13 times symbolized the original 13 colonies that declared independence in 1776, serving as a powerful reminder of our nation's founding and the ideals that continue to unite us. We were also honored to recognize the men and women who have served in our nation's Armed Forces, whose dedication and sacrifice have helped protect the freedoms we cherish.

Events like Let Freedom Ring remind us that Independence Day is about more than celebrating our past, it is about honoring the values that define us as Americans while strengthening the sense of community that makes Cerritos such a special place to call home. I extend my sincere appreciation to everyone who attended and to Cerritos staff and the City Celebrations Committee members who helped make this year's celebration a success.
