From the Mayor's Desk: April 17, 2026

By Cerritos Mayor Lynda P. Johnson

To my hometown of Cerritos, it brings me tremendous pride to greet you as Mayor of the City I’ve known since 1971. Four years ago, you humbled me with your vote to the Cerritos City Council. On April 8, I was honored to receive the unanimous support of my City Council colleagues and be selected as Mayor.

I grew up here when there were still dairy farms and cows. Looking back, I’m proud to have witnessed our City’s extraordinary progress from Dairy Valley into the jewel of the Gateway Cities region. Now, I have the honor of helping contribute to our high-quality services, amenities, and a strong business climate. This year is especially significant as we celebrate Cerritos’ 70th anniversary. We are reminded of how far we have come and the progress we have achieved together.

Over the decades, the diversity of our City has continued to grow, enriching the culture of Cerritos. As Mayor, I am committed to representing all residents; our seniors, our youth, people with disabilities, and the different cultural and ethnic backgrounds that make Cerritos strong.

Our City is home to the world-class Cerritos Library, a hub of learning and innovation. Cerritos features the world-renowned Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts, a destination that offers an exceptional live entertainment experience and serves as an economic driver for the City. Together, they stand as iconic landmarks of education and the arts, representing the best of what Cerritos has to offer.

I am committed to making decisions in the best interest of our City.  I understand that good governance sometimes requires difficult choices, but I will remain focused on ensuring that those choices are guided by what is right for the long-term strength and sustainability of Cerritos. That is the oath I took, and it is the duty I was sworn to uphold.

I’m thankful for the opportunity to work alongside my City Council colleagues, City staff, as well as our community stakeholders, in our continued progress toward a stronger Cerritos.

I look forward to speaking with you periodically through this column, From the Mayor’s Desk, and in various other ways to share about Cerritos’ key initiatives, progress, and opportunities. Thank you for your support.
