Details
While upcoming weather conditions could bring periods of rain, the City of Cerritos reminds residents that drought-tolerant landscaping can be effective in withstanding prolonged dry spells.
The City has several resources to support residents that also align with the Cerritos Municipal Code. Residents can access resources for how to refresh their front yards with organic drought-tolerant plant materials at cerritos.gov/residentialpermits. This includes the City’s “Front Yard Landscape Design Manual” and “Drought-Tolerant Plant Reference Guide.”
A no-fee planning front-yard landscape approval must be obtained prior to making updates to front yard landscaping. Drought-tolerant organic plant matter should comprise a minimum of 80 percent of the front-yard landscaped area. Non-organic material – which includes decomposed aggregate, gravel and/or rock – is permitted up to a maximum of 20 percent of the front-yard landscaped area. Additionally, artificial turf is allowed up to 75 percent of the front-yard landscaped area. Artificial turf is not allowed in parkways.
