City Council to Hold Next Budget Study Session on June 8
Details
The Cerritos City Council will continue its review of the Preliminary Budget for Fiscal Year 2026-2027 during a third Budget Study Session; part of the City Council's regular meeting on Monday, June 8, at 7 p.m.
On May 11, the City Council conducted an initial review of the Preliminary Budget. During the meeting, City staff presented a dual budget for consideration for Fiscal Year 2026-2027. Under this framework, the City Council may have the option of adopting a primary and contingent budget scenario. The first scenario assumes no new revenue and includes significant expenditure and service reductions to maintain fiscal sustainability. The second scenario models voter approval of a 1% Transactions and Use Tax (TUT) measure on the November 2026 ballot, which would generate approximately $19 million in new annual revenue and allow the City to maintain most service levels.
The budget planning process for Fiscal Year 2026-2027 has also included multiple Community Budget Workshops to inform residents about the City's current fiscal climate. Additionally, a 16-member Resident Budget Task Force (RBTF) was formed, and concluded its work in late April. The RBTF report, presented on May 11, details key topics of discussion, group feedback, and recommended budget balancing strategies.
