The City of Cerritos will conduct a General Municipal Election on Tuesday, March 2, 2027, for the selection of seats on the Cerritos City Council and the consideration of a Charter amendment related to election dates and conforming amendments.

Voters will have the opportunity to select from candidates for two (2) seats on the Cerritos City Council, each for the full term of four (4) years. Additionally, the ballot will include a proposed change to the City’s future general municipal election date, along with adjustments to the annual Mayoral selection date and Councilmember term commencement to align with the new election schedule.

Candidates for City Council

The official Candidate Nomination Period is from Monday, November 9, through Friday, December 4 at 5 p.m. The deadline could be extended if an eligible incumbent City Councilmember does not file the required nomination paperwork by this deadline. Cerritos residents who are intending to run for Cerritos City Council are strongly encouraged to schedule an appointment with the Office of the City Clerk/Elections Official for issuance and filing of official candidate nomination papers.

Measure L

The ballot question for the proposed Charter amendment, Measure L, reads as follows:

Shall the Cerritos City Charter be amended to move the established general municipal election date to November of each even-numbered year, consolidated with the Statewide general election, commencing Tuesday, November 7, 2028; and to adjust the date of the annual Mayoral selection and date of Councilmember term commencement, to align with this new election schedule, and make conforming amendments relating thereto?

The deadline for filing a written argument for or against Measure L is 5 p.m. on Monday, October 12, in the Office of the City Clerk/Elections Official. The argument in support of Measure L will be authored by Mayor Lynda Provido Johnson and Councilmember Frank Aurelio Yokoyama, as recently authorized by the Cerritos City Council.
