Details

The City of Cerritos is monitoring forecasts of a historic El Niño storm season and preparing support resources. California Governor Gavin Newsom issued a state of emergency on September 21, which activated the mobilization of state resources ahead of the storm’s potential impact.

Community members are reminded that sandbags can be obtained for free at their local fire station. Free sand is available to fill the sandbags in the parking lot of Cerritos Corporate Yard, located at 16540 Marquart Avenue. No appointment is necessary. Residents arriving with sandbags are encouraged to bring their own shovel.

In preparation of the El Niño storm season and any potential emergency, the City encourages community members to connect with available resources and have a plan ready. At cerritos.gov/prepare, residents can access emergency preparedness tools, signup for emergency notifications from Los Angeles County, and navigate to resources at the state and federal levels.
