From the Mayor's Desk: March 20, 2026
By Cerritos Mayor Frank Aurelio Yokoyama
Safe and reliable public infrastructure in Cerritos requires routine maintenance, planning, and strategic budgeting. Advocacy at the state and federal level also helps to secure supplemental funding through grants and government appropriations.
Earlier this month, my City Council colleagues and I were honored to accept a check from Congressman Derek Tran for $3.15 million toward the renovation of the Del Amo Boulevard bridge. This major east–west corridor impacts both Los Angeles and Orange Counties, and is used daily by thousands of motorists, transit riders, cyclists, and pedestrians.
The project will realign the bridge, widen it to four lanes of travel, eliminate the existing curve, and improve pedestrian and bicycle access. The project will also include traffic signal synchronization of five intersections along Del Amo Boulevard. This will provide a more efficient traffic corridor for vehicles traveling across county lines.
The City of Cerritos appreciates Congressman Tran’s partnership and work on behalf of our community. As the lead agency for the Del Amo Boulevard bridge renovation, the City has also coordinated with the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority, the Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA), as well as nearby cities, to build regional support. We are grateful for their collaboration and look forward to continued progress toward strengthening our local infrastructure. We also appreciate the public’s support and patience as this project continues to progress.
By enhancing infrastructure, we strengthen public safety, help stimulate business activity, and support the overall vitality of Cerritos.
