From the Mayor's Desk: July 4, 2025
By Cerritos Mayor Frank Aurelio Yokoyama
Since our founding as the City of Dairy Valley in 1956, Cerritos has seen remarkable growth. This is due in large part to community-driven support and investments to make our City welcoming for all to live, work, and do business.
Longtime Cerritos businesses like The White Lotus Florist, which the City Council recognized with the Business Spotlight for June, embody that spirit of quality service that our City strives to provide.
Efforts to attract and retain businesses and patrons to the City of Cerritos are fundamental to Strategic Goal number 4: Strengthen Economic Development, and symbolic of our Strategic Plan theme, “Cerritos in Progress.”
In addition to recent business openings, I was excited to announce at last week’s State of the City that we’ll will soon welcome Tokyo Central/Marukai, a Japanese market, at the former Pacific Sales in Cerritos Towne Center. This market expands Cerritos’ already strong international-based stores and restaurants, offering Japanese goods and supporting cultural engagement.
For our business patrons and Cerritos residents as a whole, it is important that you feel valued and have a positive experience in our City.
During our meeting on June 26, I joined my City Council colleagues in recognizing Juneteenth and Pride Month. Acknowledging the positive impact of African Americans and members of our LGBTQ+ community continues the City Council’s commitment to celebrating cultural diversity and strengthens community engagement.
Creating opportunities for business growth and showing appreciation for our people builds upon the “Cerritos in Progress” theme and helps to fulfill our Strategic Goals.
The City of Cerritos is committed to these goals, and each of you has the ability to help shape our collective progress ahead. Thank you for your support in our City’s continuous improvement and forward momentum. For more information on the Cerritos Strategic Plan and our goals, visit cerritos.gov/strategy.
